The Story Behind Pocket Apartments
The Unexpected
Pocket Apartments began with a simple twist of fate. It all started when we decided to rent out our small one-bedroom flat while trying to sell it. Unexpectedly, we discovered that our tenant was listing the property on Airbnb. This sparked an idea and introduced us to the potential of short-term rentals.
We soon came across Linden Gardens, a property filled with short-term rentals and a building officially designated for hotel use. Taking a leap of faith, we transformed the space and listed it on Airbnb. To our surprise, it thrived, marking the beginning of our journey into boutique serviced apartments.
But there was more to the vision. With a dream of having her own coffee shop, we decided to merge practical needs with a personal passion. As we established a reception for the apartments and moved our office, the dream of creating a welcoming, community-driven space started to take shape.
Our next milestone came with Vicarage Gate, a historic hotel that had been serving guests since 1966 but ceased operations in 2015. We saw an opportunity to bring it back to life in a modern, meaningful way. Overhauling the building, we removed the old reception, tore out communal kitchens, and reimagined the rooms as stylish, self-contained apartments with private bathrooms—perfect for travelers seeking comfort and convenience.
At first, managing the growing number of rooms was chaotic, relying on basic key boxes. However, as we expanded to over 52 rooms, we introduced an innovative keyless entry system to streamline the guest experience and enhance security.
Today, Pocket Apartments stands as a testament to adaptability, creativity, and the drive to create something special. From our humble beginnings to a thriving collection of boutique London apartments, we’ve built a space where guests can feel at home while exploring the charm of Kensington and Notting Hill.
